Fund-Raising Projects

The Club is a beneficiary of two major fundraising events:

Major Fundraising Projects

The Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour started in 1978 is the largest timed cycling event in the world today, taking cyclists along 109km of the most beautiful suburbs and conservation areas around the Cape Peninsula. The Cycle Tour attracts some 35,000 entries from around the globe and is one of only two events outside Europe to be part of the UCI Golden Bike series

The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk offers a selection of course distances from 10 km to 100 km. Although the Big Walk has been in existence for 100 years, Claremont's involvement commenced in 1991. Since then the event has grown rapidly with well over 20 000 participants.

Both events, although catering for the serious athlete, are also fun events for lesser mortals and cover all age groups.

Donations and Projects

The club derives its funds from the major fundraising projects mentioned above and also from Rotary Matching Grants. For details of the Club's donations and projects for the past five years click here
